On October 17, 2023, Baidu World 2023 with the theme of "PROMPT THE WORLD" was held in Beijing Shougang Industrial Park. At the conference, Baidu released version 4.0 of Big Model ERNIE Bot, and brought more than ten AI native applications such as Baidu Search, Baidu Ruliu, Baidu Map, Baidu Netdisk, and Baidu Library based on the Big Model ERNIE Bot reconstruction. According to data verification certified by the authoritative third-party organization Bureau Veritas, the conference successfully purchased wind energy Certified Emissions Reduction that meets international standards, completely neutralizing the 80.1 tons of carbon dioxide produced by the conference, creating a "Zero-Carbon Conference."
The whole "zero carbon" process of Baidu World 2023:
In the preparatory stage, the conference organizing committee invited Bureau Veritas to inspect the conference site and personnel invitation matters to ensure that the conference is green and environmentally friendly from the beginning;
During the conference, in to reduce the carbon footprint, the organizing committee set up an electronic version of the conference schedule to replace the promotional page and called on all attending guests to use public transportation for low-carbon travel. They recycled renewable items after the conference. Other measures also had been taken to reduce emissions in the process .
At the closing stage, after verification and evaluation by Bureau Veritas, the greenhouse gas emissions that generated by this conference would be fully offset by the carbon sinks generated by the Renewable Energy Wind Power Project after the conference, achieving the conferences "carbon neutrality ".
Since Baidu officially announced in June 2021 that it will achieve the "carbon neutrality" goal at the groups operational level by 2030, Baidu has continued to deepen green practices around six paths: data centers, office buildings, carbon offsets, intelligent traffic, intelligent cloud, and supply chains, which could help society move towards a green and sustainable future.
