On April 12, 2023, Baidu and the Institute of Carbon Neutrality of Peking University launched a seminar on ecological carbon sinks. The two sides discussed on multiple topics, covering the model and cost of ecological carbon sinks, as well as the industry-university-research institute cooperation.

Experts from the Institute of Carbon Neutrality of Peking University pointed out that in terms of ecological carbon sinks, Baidu can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) for plant growth monitoring, model construction, carbon sink measurement, database establishment and other links and goals; Meanwhile, Baidu can also empower the field of ecological carbon sink research through the Wenxin large language model  to improve the efficiency of literature and data collection. Baidu said that the using intelligent means to strengthen existing carbon offset methods is also an important direction that Baidu is currently committed to exploring.

In the context of new AI technology development, the seminar has contributed to new ideas for the realization of Baidu’s carbon neutral goal by 2030.
